Do Try (SOME) of This!May 29, 2007Just a quick time out to acknowledge Brian Kenney's May SLJ editorial where he talks about getting overwhelmed by all of the wonderful ideas thrown out by SLJ. As he notes, "It took me a while to figure out what, no doubt, many of you already know. That innovation is important, but that it’s up to us to pick and choose—adding the new, eliminating the old—while keeping our eyes on the prize: what’s working with your students and patrons" [SLJ]. There are a lot of sites, tools, and ideas being thrown out here but please don't let yourself get overwhelmed. The idea is to present a couple tools a week in the hope that some of them will be right for you as you pick and choose. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for topics, or if there is a task you would like to explore in the online world.Posted by Chris Harris on May 29, 2007 | Comments (2)

In response to: Do Try (SOME) of This! ANN KENNEY commented: I have Freshman Information Literacy classes at my high school and for the last 3 weeks we have been trying out some of the tools you mentioned in your columns such as Jott and Zoho. They have been some of the most exciting classes all year. I would ask that when you review new tools, you state the requirements to download or not download programs or files. My school blocks downloads in my library computing lab, as many schools do, so I have to test extensively before using new tools.
