The Most Important Click
March 26, 2007
The most important click you can make these days, is the one that gets you involved in a social network. You have heard it before....it isn't what you know, it's who you know? You can probably think of a person who got a job because they knew someone, or recall a story about "cronyism."
In Web 2.0, however, all that changes. While who you know is still very important, what you know will very often determine who you get to know. Blogging is a way to get spread your name by spreading your ideas. The goal here isn't to convince you to start a blog, though, but rather to engage in an online network of some type.
- If you are a writer, then blogging is a great way to get involved.
- If you are a reader, commenting on blogs is just as important as the blogging itself!
- If you are a photographer, consider joining a library group on Flickr.
- If you are a listener/speaker, how about podcasts?
- If you are a sharer, then you could share more effectively on a library wiki.
- If you are a LM_NET user, consider moving to a more open network.
No matter the way in which you choose to get involved, the most important click is the one that helps you start to build your social network online. Over the next few posts, you can explore some of the networking opportunities mentioned above. I will be talking about both the why and the how of getting involved.
