Tracking School Online
August 22, 2007
Last time we looked at programs you can download to your computer to track assignments and classes, but what about those who want to stay on track online? The benefit of using an online system for assignments is that it can be accessed (and thus updated!) at school as well as at home.
My top recommendation for this type of website is, once again, one that I have been using for a while. 37 Signals'
Backpack software provides an incredible suite of management tools. The free version provides five pages, which in this case could be used to monitor five different classes. Each page includes free-form placement of check off, to-do list items and text areas as well as Writeboards (a simple online word processor). Free accounts also get access to the Backpack reminder system, where you can have e-mail or SMS reminders sent (and resent!) to keep you on track. I have upgraded my account to the basic level which, for $5 a month, bumps me up to 25 pages, adds 500MB of picture and file storage, removes the ads, and adds a calendar. A great, parent-friendly feature here is that your credit card number is not displayed on the accounts page!
Another possiblity for keeping track of school work is to use a full featured online calendar like
30Boxes.com. This free calendar site also includes a "webtop" view that displays an overview of your day, upcoming to-do items, and additional content from sites like Google, Flickr, and other pages.
