The clock is ticking. Check with your state's Board of Elections to find out if there is still time to register teens to vote in the November election. In some states, even incarcerated 18-year-olds retain the right to vote. Deadlines vary from state to state. The ACLU also is a great source of information on voting rights.

• Teen Advisory Group Evolves Thanks to Trillium
  In April 2008, the Ontario Trillium Foundation awarded $75, 000 to the County of Lennox and Addington Public Library, Napanee, Ontario, for enhancements of teen services. Rebecca Hinch was hired in June of 2008 as the teen services facilitator to recruit a Teen Advisory Group (T.A.G.) to help guide these changes and foster teen programming in all of its facilities.   SLJTeen never throws anything away and recently excavated a flyer picked up at BookExpo America about hosting a “jam comic activity” at a bookstore, and thought it would make for a great teen program at a library. That led to getting in touch with author Matt Madden, who explained that jam comics are just one part of his and co-author Jessica Abel’s new title, Drawing Words & Writing Pictures. more » » » 

Teens Know "Best" - Book Reviews from Young Adults

• Link, Kelly. Pretty Monsters: Stories. Penguin. October 2008. ISBN: 978-0-670-01090-5. Gr 7-10.
  Each story is completely different from the others, including the writing techniques, the plots and the characters. It was great to see a wide variety of stories from one main point but still contrasting with each other. Great plots! Some were a bit weird though (that's a good thing these days though!) And different than I expected. more » » »

  Rapunzel’s Revenge is a great book because the illustrations are right there. It's nice because the scene is shown much more vividly than when simply described in a book. more » » » 
• Whitcomb, Laura. The Fetch. Houghton Mifflin. February 2009. ISBN: 978-0-618-89131-3. Gr 7-12.
  To me, this book was fantastic because it slipped some history about the Russian Revolution in between the pages. The author takes a fantasy-like approach to explaining how Anastasia and Alexis Romanov disappeared. I found it very interesting and very fun to read. I managed to finish this book in a few days, even on top of my homework pile. more » » »

  The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), the fastest growing division of the American Library Association (ALA) is offering the Frances Henne/YALSA/VOYA (Voice of Youth Advocates) Research Grant for 2009.  This grant of $1000 provides seed money for small-scale projects that will encourage research that responds to the YALSA Research Agenda. more » » »
