    • Help NYC School Libraries, Win a Pair of Manolos
What do the cobalt blue Manolo pumps that Carrie wore in the Sex and the City movie have to do with school libraries? Here’s your chance to win your own pair of those satin shoes by becoming a fan of the Fund for Public Schools on Facebook.

The Fund for Public Schools is about to kick off its sixth Shop for Public Schools program to raise money to improve and revitalize New York City public school libraries. For one week between October 1 and 8, participating New York City merchants—including Borders, J. Crew, and Staples—will pledge a percentage of their sales or a flat donation to the Fund for Public Schools. more » » »
    • Anderson’s Books Stir Controversy Leading into Banned Books Week

Kristi Rutz-Robbins, the board member who cast the sole dissenting vote, told the LA Times that "rape victims, children who are emotionally and developmentally immature and those seriously interested in being prepared for college can stick to classics and other works without graphic rape scenes." more » » »

    • Welcome Back Woody: Toy Story in 3-D
On October 2, 2009, Walt Disney Studios will rerelease Toy Story (1995) and Toy Story 2 (1999), both newly rendered in state-of-the-art Disney Digital 3-D and presented in theaters for a two-week limited engagement. The first-ever fully computer-generated full-length feature film, Toy Story was a true groundbreaker, for both its technical innovation and witty yet endearing narrative tone. Delving comically (and poignantly) into the secret lives of toys, this fantasy was soon followed by a sequel, also produced by Pixar Animation Studios and directed by John Lasseter. more » » »
