NOMINATIONS ARE BEING ACCEPTED FOR THE SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL/GREENWOOD PUBLISHING GROUP 2006 ADMINISTRATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD

Do you have an outstanding Superintendent, Principal, or Vice Principal?

If your administrator understands and supports your instructional role with students;
If your administrator is a library advocate, and believes in creating an information-rich learning environment;
If your administrator encourages collaboration between you and the rest of the faculty;
If your administrator has been instrumental in helping you to institute and maintain meaningful library programs

then perhaps you work for the Administrator of the Year.

School Library Journal and Greenwood Publishing Group have teamed up to honor the best school administrators in America. The Administrator of the Year Award highlights the importance of forward-thinking, collaborative school administrators to the long-term success of school libraries and, ultimately, students.

The first place winner will receive $5,000. Runners-up will receive $3,000 and $2,000 respectively.

How do you nominate your administrator? It’s easy! Simply send an email to Demetrius Watson at School Library Journal (dwatson@reedbusiness.com) with your responses to the following:

Your contact information (name, title, school address, phone number, Web address, and email address as well as a phone number/email address where you can be reached when school is not in session)
Your administrator’s contact information (name, title, school address, phone number, and email address as well as a phone number/email address where he or she can be reached when school is not in session)
Briefly describe your school population and the community you serve
Explain why you believe your administrator deserves to be SLJ’s/Greenwood Publishing Group’s Administrator of the Year.
Explain how your school administrator has been instrumental in fostering your role as school library media specialist and your school’s library programs.
Briefly discuss the types of programs you have been able to institute as a result of his or her commitment and how this commitment has influenced student learning.
Please limit your response to 1,000 words.

Finalists will be notified by April 1, 2006. Administrators will be asked to respond to additional questions before the winners are selected.
