'Olivia' On Nick
-- School Library Journal,07/01/2008
Ian Falconer's Olivia has conquered the printed word with more than six million copies sold to date. Now she's taking on TV. Chorion, a provider of family entertainment, is bringing the porcine diva to Nickelodeon, which will launch the series over the course of 26 half-hour episodes in the first quarter of 2009. The Simon Spotlight and Simon Scribbles imprints at Simon & Schuster will develop television tie-ins, using formats ranging from storybooks to coloring books.

I love the Olivia books but I am sad to see her go cartoon... Now she will have a voice that is not the one I make up for my daughter. Ian Falconer's artwork is so wonderfully original. Probably too late, but he should read the essay by Bill Waterson of Calvin and Hobbs regarding why he resisted licensing his Calvin and Hobbs characters beyond the printed image. ...
Ian, spend the money wisely-- do some good with it for children's literacy.
