Welcome to the Show
The Library of Congress (LC) has launched a crackerjack of a site for baseball aficionados—and students of the game, too—that went live last month. Featuring treasures from the library’s vast trove, the multimedia site includes highlights such as rare images of baseball games and even the original sheet music to the classic anthem “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”

Like other multimedia pages sponsored by our nation’s library, the baseball site features educational tools. Lesson plans include “Jackie Steals Home,” which explores the history of racism through the story of famed Dodger Jackie Robinson. Other online resources for teachers and students help bring the sport and its history to vivid life.

Judge Rules That Turnitin Does Not Violate Students' Copyrights
Four Virginia and Arizona high school students hoping to score a legal hit against Turnitin have been rebuffed: a federal district court judge in Virginia recently threw out their lawsuit, ruling that the plagiarism detection company does not violate the copyright of students, even though it stores digital copies of their essays to check future submissions for academic dishonesty.

The suit began in October 2006 when students belonging to a self-styled "Committee for Students' Rights" at McLean High School in Virginia argued that when Turnitin's parent, iParadigms, retained their assigned papers in its databases, that practice constituted copyright infringement. read more...

Countdown to Caspian
Walden Media and Walt Disney Pictures follow up their blockbuster hit, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005), with the second installment in The Chronicles of Narnia film series. Prince Caspian (not yet rated), based on C. S. Lewis’s book of the same title (1951), is scheduled for release on May 16, 2008 and reunites the cast with director Andrew Adamson. It’s been a year since the Pevensie siblings returned to England and they are thrilled to find themselves transported back to Narnia for another adventure. Almost 1300 years have passed in the magical realm, which is now under the control of the cruel King Miraz (Sergio Castellitto), who has rested power from his nephew, Prince Caspian (Ben Barnes), the rightful heir to the throne.
