Dodie Ownes -- School Library Journal, 11/04/2009

Young adult services librarians can learn more about teens’ reading and buying habits by checking out Carol Fitzgerald's article, “What Do Teens Want?,” in the October 26 issue of Publishers Weekly. First piece of good news? The forecast is for a 5.1 percent increase in young adult books sales in the coming year. That’s good news for both bookstores and libraries, since it means that publishers will be paying even more attention to YA titles. And the second piece of good news? Of the 4,073 teens surveyed, 52 percent reported visiting the library more this year than last. It seems the economic downturn has altered the library habits of both teens and adults.
