More than half of all student-computing devices will be mobile by 2011 and online learning will grow by at least 26 percent annually over the next five years, says a recent survey of the top 2,500 school districts nationwide.
"America's Digital Schools 2006," conducted by the Hayes Connection and the Greaves Group and sponsored by Discovery Education and Pearson Education, also finds that more than 87 percent of schools offering one-on-one computing (an Internet-capable device for every student and teacher at school and at home) report substantial academic improvement.
The survey's goal is to shed light on how America's schools will evolve in the use of technology over the next five years. Superintendents, curriculum directors, and technology directors representing more than 11 million students nationwide participated in the study.
