Toni Bissessar, branch manager of the Columbia Pike and Glencarlyn branches of the Arlington County Public Library, is this year’s winner of the Arnulfo D. Trejo Librarian of the Year Award.
Bissessar was given the honor for her contributions to REFORMA (the National Association to promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking) and for her advocacy work on “behalf of underrepresented and diverse communities,” says the REFORMA LOTY committee that chose her.
Bissessar was a cofounder of the Pura Belpre Award, Cochair of the 2nd REFORMA National Conference, and a president of REFORMA from 1999 to 2000.
The award, sponsored by the Trejo Foster Foundation for Hispanic Library Education, will be presented at the REFORMA fundraiser on Sunday, June 24 at the American Library Association Annual Conference in Washington, DC.
