'Ebooks: The New Normal'
Dodie Ownes
There's still time to register for this fall's hottest virtual event—Ebooks: The New Normal—Library Journal and School Library Journal's second virtual summit on ebooks and their role in the future of libraries. For just $29.95 (for LJ and SLJ print subscribers), attendees will be treated to eight information-packed hours of everything ebook. And if you can't make it to the live event on October 12, no problem: the virtual event will be archived until early 2012, and you can see it on demand at your convenience. There'll be three tracks covering how ebooks affect academic, public, and school libraries, and there will also be an exhibit hall, where you can chat with vendors to learn more about their ebooks and services.
There will be two panels specifically for K-12 school libraries, focusing on the state of ebooks and purchasing and distribution models. But honestly, every session promises to be a fantastic learning opportunity. Do you like authors? We've got them, too. M. T. Andersen, the author of Feed and The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing, will deliver the afternoon keynote address,"The End of the Story: The Future of Fiction in an Electronic Age," followed by a Pecha Kucha presentation featuring a whole passel of authors, including Donald Crews, author of the award-winning classic Freight Train.
