Dominican University has named Diane Foote the assistant dean of its Graduate School of Library and Information Science, where she'll be responsible for marketing, communications, and recruitment. Foote has more than a decade of experience in marketing, writing, and editing, having served as director of marketing at the children's book publisher Holiday House; associate editor at Book Links, published by the American Library Association; and a reviewer of children's and parenting books for Booklist and Kirkus Reviews. Foote holds a bachelor's degree in international relations and French from Colgate University and earned her master's degree in library and information science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. "With the appointment of Diane Foote, we are adding a seasoned professional with the background and talent to effectively promote our expanded library and information science program," says GSLIS Dean Susan Roman. Founded in 1930, Dominican University's GSLIS offers an American Library Association-accredited master's degree program with specialized certificates and a doctorate of philosophy in library and information science.
"Professionals educated in library and information science are extremely valuable these days. Who better to help children and adults understand and navigate a complicated information environment than librarians?" says Foote (left), a former executive director of the Association for Library Service to Children. "It's exciting to be in a position to help build this profession by recruiting the best and brightest to library school, and increasing awareness of the skills and talents we nurture here at Dominican."
