Awards for the video trailers that best promote books for children and teens were handed out to six different winners Sunday night in Dallas, TX at the American Library Association's midwinter meeting.

Little chicks bigday180(Original Import)Where the Mountain Meets the Moon (Little, Brown, 2009) Catherine Fisher's Incarceron (Dial, 2010) and Robert Cormier's Tenderness (Delacorte, 1997) were among the videos, or Trailees, that took top honors at School Library Journal's second annual Trailee Awards.

Members of the public voted online for the six award winners who were chosen from 24 finalists.

Katie Davis was the winner in the author-produced category for a trailer she created for her book Little Chicken's Big Day, (S & S, 2011), which recounts the tale of a chick who wanders off and gets lost.

"Book trailers raise awareness about the big power of little books to reach readers," said Davis after learning that she had won. Davis, who also illustrated the book that she co-authored with her husband Jerry Davis, thanked "all those nice little chickens (and people!) who voted" for her entry.

More than 80 entries were submitted to the 2012 Trailees, said Teresa Schauer, district librarian for Pettus ISD, Pettus TX and creator of the website Book Trailers for All.

From that number, four finalists in six different categories were selected to compete for the top prize in each category. Then, members of public were invited to vote for their top choice, with six videos emerging as the winners. Altogether, the public cast about 3,100 votes to decide their favorite book trailer, said Schauer.

In addition to Schauer, the judges who selected 24 finalists were Daryl Grabarek, editor of SLJ's Curriculum Connections and Touch and Go; Shannon McClintock Miller, a librarian at Van Meter Community School District in Van Meter, IA; Melanie Mubarak, an elementary school librarian at Fort Bend ISD in Houston, TX; John Schumacher, a school librarian at Brook Forest Elementary School in Oak Brook, IL; and Joyce Valenza, a teacher-librarian at Springfield Township High School in Springfield Township, PA.
