The stores are already setting up displays of school supplies, and parents are beginning to think about getting their kids ready for the big day. This site is designed for those seeking advice and information about how to make their child's transition from home to school, from one grade to another, or from one school to another as easy and pleasant as possible.
"What Kids Learn at School--Grade-by-Grade" shows parents what their children will cover in grades Pre-K through 5. Having this knowledge in advance, parents will not only be able to anticipate the types of projects and homework assignments their kids will be working on, but they'll also be able to identify any potential problems in advance.
Parents with preschoolers and Kindergarteners will find "Starting School" and "Talking with Kids about School" to be full of great practical advice. Both sections have "Age & Stage Tips" that will inform parents about some of the social and emotional issues associated with each grade (including 1-5). Both sections will help parents establish meaningful lines of communication with their kids about what they are learning and what they like and don't like about the learning process. Be sure to check out "Secrets of Social Life" as well as the other "PBS Parents" guides to reading/language, early math, and creativity, found in the "School Resources" section.
