Internet Technology with Intelligence!

Once in a while, someone shares something with me that I'm completely blown away by and that just happened! WolframAlpha is a new online search engine. It's constantly evolving and it has the ability to track down answers, particularly for those queries that need to plumb statistical databases. Using it makes me feel like I'm seeing the web of the future.

Simply go to WolframAlpha's website and begin searching. You can enter a string of search terms or pose real-life questions—such as, for example, "What is the population of Castle Rock, CO?" You'll get immediate results along with other complementary data. Try a few really easy things, like typing in your date of birth or the name of the city where you live. AlphaWolfram will deliver detailed statistics about that date or your city or town's current unemployment rate.

How about long algebraic formulas? Much to the chagrin of high school algebra teachers everywhere, WolframAlpha has the answer! Does a social studies teacher want comparisons of GDP from several countries? Type in GDP and the countries and the search engine gives you side-by-side comparisons with tons of extra information.

Of course, WolframAlpha doesn't take the place of conducting your own research. It's still crucial to use your research skills to verify the various data sources. But for statistical comparisons, computations, and other detailed data, it's hard to beat the tool's easily accessible answers. Instead of millions of results that vary in their relevance to your keyword search, WolframAlpha actually "thinks" about your question's who, what, where, and how and delivers much more selective and valuable results than those available from other search engines. Here's a challenge—run a side-by-side test of WolframAlpha and Google and see which results best suit your needs. Welcome to the future of web surfing! To learn more about this very cool tool, check out its short video introduction.
