September 1, 2010

One thing I love about having teen reviews of music and games in SLJTeen is that I'm constantly being introduced to new media. Though I was never a big Boyz II Men fan, I think I could get into playing some tracks from Mike Posner's new album, 31 Minutes to Takeoff, especially on cleaning days when I need a little energy kick to keep me going. And I can just imagine the crazy uniforms I'd like to design for my fantasy college football team in NCAA Football 11–who says stripes and paisley don't work well together?

31 Minutes to Takeoff, Mike Posner (J-Records)
Posner, a recent Duke University graduate, created a solo album that showcases his singing and songwriting abilities–and puts him on the national music map. Most of the songs revolve around "the relationship"–love gained and lost, with lots of sexual overtones in between. Posner's seductive and sultry sound has matured to include more hip hop elements while keeping alive his strong dance-club style. Check out the electric guitar inspired "Bow Chicka Wow Wow," the Boyz II Men venture on "Déjà vu," as well as the high-energy sound of "Cooler Than Me" and "Please Don't Go." Posner has a lot to offer and 31 Minutes to Takeoff is definitely a great album to dance the late summer nights away.–Ellie R., grade 12, Floral Park (NY) Memorial High School

NCAA Football 11 (Electronic Arts)
Fans of college football will agree that this year's edition of NCAA Football is one of the best games out there. The core game play benefits from excellent, upgraded animation and a new duel analog control. Direct feedback and a new point system are also great additions that make the game much smoother to play than in previous years. The on-field action got a facelift too and other touches like team entrances and being able to create a stadium, school, jerseys, etc., in the team-builder area are so cool.

The recruiting aspect is still a bit confusing and slow and the "Road to Glory" game track is more or less the same as last year's. Gamers are sure to take advantage of the connectivity with Online Dynasty. It's a must-play feature that takes this game to a whole new level. While the latest version is certainly not perfect, NCAA Football 11 is an awesome playing experience for fans of every level. Rated E for Everyone; Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PS2.–Brian G., grade 12, Floral Park (NY) Memorial High School
