Laura Izibor, Let the Truth Be Told
Let the Truth Be Told, released in April, is the debut album of the young R&B artist Laura Izibor. Her lyrics, which were written during the past four years, speak words of true experience and emotions that transcend her 20 years. When paired with her soulful voice and style, similar to that of Alicia Keys, listeners discover an album filled with passion. The opening song “Shine” is fresh and upbeat, leaving listeners eager for more. Each and every song on this album is deep and expressive. Probably the most moving of all is the final song “Mmm…” in which Izibor is accompanied by a piano and a gospel organ and choir. The soulful harmonies leave the listener on a calm and sweet note. Izibor’s fresh album can be purchased at lauraizibor.com, iTunes, and Amazon.com.—Josel R., Gr 12, Floral Park (NY) Memorial High School
Death Note Relight: Visions of a God
Death Note Relight: Visions of a God (Volume 1) was one of the most intense animes I've seen so far (Viz Media, 2009). This is a seat-gripping movie about a high school student named Light Yagami who picks up a Shinigami's note book, also called the Death Note. The Death Note was dropped into the human world when the Shinigami Ryuk became bored. However Ryuk has no idea how far Light will take his new power. One by one, hardened criminals start dropping dead of heart attacks and when Japan’s police force can't figure it out they call in genius detective L. Now Light and L are locked in a battle of wits. This video is amazing and captures the look of a live-action movie. Directed by the venerable Tetsuro Araki. If you’re only planning to watch one anime this fall, make it Death Note Relight: Visions of a God.—Sara F., Gr 11, Floral Park (NY) Memorial High School
