Books on Tape Launches Digital Audio Collection for Libraries
Laura B. Weiss -- School Library Journal, 06/21/2006
In a major development, Books on Tape, a division of Random House, is releasing its first-ever digital audio collection specifically tailored for libraries to download from the Web. The initial collection is comprised of 200 titles from the Books on Tape, Listening Library, and Living Language backlists, and an additional 100 titles will be added this fall. Maya Angelou, Beverly Cleary, and Kate DiCamillo are some of the authors in the collection.
The Books on Tape Digital titles will be available for purchase through any library wholesaler who agrees to certain requirements, including prohibiting CD burning and file sharing. The Web-based service can be purchased from OverDrive, which will begin carrying titles immediately, and NetLibrary, which will start carrying them by the end of the summer.
