In our county, most cities restrict the use of the library to those living within city limits. As we live in a rural town, we allow people to use our library at no cost.

According to our Mission Statement the Lewiston Public Library believes it is essential to provide materials and services, which will help community residents, obtain information meeting their personal, educational and professional information needs. The library will serve as a center for learning and enrichment for all residents of the community regardless of age level. We do not restrict the number of books people are able to check out at one time. There is a very little problem with people losing library books.

We have eight computers for adult/teen use with access to the Internet, and two computers with programs for three years and older with educational games.

We have tremendous community support. The library is a hub of activity and a main source of information for the community at large.

We know patrons’ interest and buy accordingly, this encourages patrons to use and be secure in the material from they check out from our library.

We have an active library board which very strongly supports our library and its programs.

Mayor Kelly Field recently submitted a letter to the County Executive in which he states, “At present our library is open and available to all citizens that desire to use it.” With such great support, we hope to meet the needs of all who desire library services.—Chris Martinez, Director
