K-Gr 2—Peg and Cat return in a new picture book and take math into the kitchen to help solve a crisis. It's opening day at Peg's Pizza Place, and customers are pouring in, but one table orders two and a half pizza pies. Peg asks, "What in the world is half a pie?" and wonders what to do, but with the help of Ramone and Mac (and Cat), she is able to figure it out. The math problems are a natural part of the narrative, as pizza pies are ordered and split among the customers. Illustrations of the math problems support visual learning and highlight the cast of delightful characters, from "the Teens" to Ludwig van Beethoven and Zebra Guy.
VERDICT A fun way to teach math from definition to application. There might be a high demand because of the PBS Kids show starting its second season in 2016.
