PreS-Gr 2–In massively busy scenes this books demonstrates how children (and everyone else) are connected by emotions and tasks but are also different in interesting ways. Every page is populated by characters that are various colors (every color in the rainbow), and involved in different activities, but are connected by a common theme. A subtle philosophical point is also being made. For example, on one page the text states, “Everybody gets hurt sometimes...Some wounds leave scars and some don’t leave even the tiniest mark.” On a basic level it is about physical injuries, but on another level it is emotional. Multiple age groups will glean different information from the same text. For fans of Todd Parr’s It’s Ok To Be Different.
VERDICT An additional purchase, this makes valid points in a childlike way, and the simplicity is deceptive.–Ruth Guerrier-Pierre, New York P.L.
