Rowling, Gaiman Among Winners of First Quill Awards

Entertainment and publishing giants gathered in New York on October 11 for the first Quill Awards, honoring excellence in writing and publishing. The awards are sponsored by Reed Business Information, parent of School Library Journal and NBC Universal Television Stations.
J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince nabbed top honors for both Book of the Year and Children's Chapter Book/Middle Grade. Award presenters included celebrities such as Sex and the City siren Kim Cattrall and authors Erica Jong and Jonathan Lethem. Quills winners include:
- Book of the Year: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, J. K. Rowling, Mary GrandPré (Illustrator), Arthur Levine/Scholastic
- Children's Illustrated Book: Runny Babbit: A Billy Sook, Shel Silverstein, HarperCollins Children's Books
- Young Adult/Teen: Girls in Pants: The Third Summer of the Sisterhood, Ann Brashares, Delacorte
- Graphic Novel: Marvel 1602 Volume I, Neil Gaiman, Andy Kubert, and Richard Isanove, Marvel Comics
The awards ceremony will air October 22 from 7–8 p.m. on NBC.
