Help Design the New ‘World Book’

-- School Library Journal, 3/20/2007

World Book Encyclopedia is asking students, teachers, and others to help design its 2008 edition—and enter to win a set of the new encyclopedia.

Word Book began supplementing its classic leather binding in 1999 with its trademark Spinescape, a method of printing an image across the spine of its 22-volume set. This marks the first time readers will choose the encyclopedia’s Spinescape.

Voting is easy. Just visit http://vote.worldbook.com/ and you’ll be invited to choose from  four different versions: Face of Culture depicts masks from around the world; Global City showcases a composite urban skyline; Microscopic World captures up-close views of the natural world; and Urban Travel features various modes of transportation. The 2007 Spinescape is called Undersea World of Wonders and shows Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

The deadline for casting votes is April 30, and the winning Spinescape will be posted on the World Book site on August 1, 2007. Voters also can enter a drawing to win the World Book Encyclopedia 2008 by visiting www.worldbook.com. --SLJ Staff
