The Girls is a retelling of Clare Booth Luce’s play The Women, which opened in New York in 1936 with an all-female cast. The book cover did tempt me to pick it up, and I feel like the cover did reflect the content. I was disappointed with the book because it didn't reach the expectations the cover and the summary created for me.
The part of the book I thought was most compelling was when Peggy found out that her best friend's boyfriend was really cheating on her best friend. The Girls wasn't as good as I had hoped, and the characters were too nonrealistic. The book seems like it’s trying to portray the true friendship of two girls, but it didn't do that.—Patong L., age 15
