You're going to want to play around with Bing's beautiful, new Visual Search. And so will your students. ![]() A directory-type search, still in BETA, Visual Search allows you to search from images that fit into a growing variety of data groupings. It reminds me a bit of the matrix-type search offered by Google Squared. (See Google Squared: another one to...Read More

Our resource centres should be drivers of teacher and student learning. We cannot afford for our resource centres to be underutilised or bound in a twentieth century learning paradigm. (Great Libraries of Learning)I continue to look for ways to define our revised/refreshed/remixed vision of library to the world. (Please, please scroll way down. I can't get this widget to fit in this blogspace and you need to see it!) ...Read More

I've been thinking about AASL Charlotte since AASL Reno. In fact, I blogged about its planning more than a year and a half ago. Recently, I asked others to openly evaluate it. Now, I suppose, it is my turn. I've been on the AASL Conference Committee for nearly two years, as co-chair of the Technology Subcommittee, otherwise known as the geek squad. Over those nearly two years, I've observed the devoted and passionate work of the volunteers who developed and nurtured a fabulous national event. They worked tirelessly, and together we built what I think was a rich and powerful experience. ...Read More

Ernie Cox and I had the opportunity to interview a few of the amazing speakers @ the AASL Conference in Charlotte, including researcher danah boyd of Microsoft Research New England, also known on Twitter as apophenia. danah's papers inform our understandings how the young people we serve live and play and work online and how we might respond, how we might be present as adults in a more effective way....Read More

Ernie Cox and I had the opportunity to chat with Marco Torres shortly after his inspiring keynote. We chatted about reading and writing as a means to an end; about studio, stage, and community; engaging, empowering, and involving; about quick victories; about the importance of emotional connection; and about getting kids to fall in love with learning. One of the many echoing quotes (one Marco does not himself claim): "You've seen one 4.0 kid, you've seen them all."Marco mentioned some of his Web resources during his keynote.&nb...Read More

AASL 2009 has come to a close and I thought I take the next few posts to share a little of what I am bringing back from Charlotte, for those who were and weren't there. First the basic access points: Donna Baumbach's (Free) Virtual AASL, functions as a wonderful aggregator of a variety of feeds (and memories)! You'll find an archive of the Twitter feeds here. And you can continue to access Conference content on the bThere site for the next year. A few of my favorite presentations are listed in this SlideShare playlist widget. It's not to late to grow this widget. If you presented in Charlotte, you can add your presentation to our playlist by uploading...Read More

As Buffy and I (and the rest of the geek squad) get ready for our last day of AASL sessions, we want to begin a very open conversation about what we loved and didn't so much love about our experience in Charlotte. Let's expand the way our conference is evaluated! For those of you who are here, and those of you who are not, please share your thoughts:
Some of the geek squad links you may find useful in thinking about Conference: ...Read More
