Experiencing NECC from home (and again and again)

July 3, 2008 NECC is one of those rare, transparent conferences you can enjoy nearly (well, maybe not exactly) as much from home.

So, if you missed the excitement of San Antonio, or if perhaps you missed a few important, crowded sessions, don't fret.  You can catch up, bigtime!

Make sure you check out the growing number of Videos on Demand, the rich assortment of Podcast Sessions, and the truly amazing Conference Online Community where attendants continue to still share like crazy!  You can continue to share these when you return to school.  Many are being housed on the Apple Learning Interchange

I am looking forward to hearing quite a few sessions I couldn't squeeze into my schedule: Dean Shareski and David Jakes: One Hour PowerPoint, Chris Lehmann: School 2.0, Christopher Corallo: Developing 21st Century Skills

Also, don't miss the resources on the wiki for Saturday's Edubloggercon event.

Now, ror the teacher librarian crowd:

On Wednesday morning I was honored to join an illustrious panel of teacher librarian bloggers: Judy O’Connell, Cathy Jo Nelson, Anita Beaman, Carolyn Foote, Diane Cordell and Kim Cofino (in spirit from Bangkok) for Feed, Tag, Research: Remixing for School Library 2.5.  If you haven't read their strong voices, start right now.

The wiki for the panel
is filled with goodies--pictures, links galore, presentations, a UStream.  This wiki contains so many of the resources we didn't have time to describe in our seven minutes each, so please explore and exploit!

Thanks to Jennifer Garcia for timing a panel that needed more than twice the amount of time allotted to share its vision and enthusiasm. Thanks to Derrall Garrison for UStreaming the session and to Carolyn for live blogging and managing the backchannel chat. The room was full, but 40 more folks joined us through these back channels at the time of the session.

My biggest session regret is that time prevented us from getting to Kim’s video which addressed the international school library perspective.

Promise me you'll view Kim's video as well as the presentations of the other panelists.

Promise me you'll visit and revisit NECC.

Why can't our library conferences be more like NECC?  (More to come on that!)

Joyce, you said:

"Why can't our library conferences be more like NECC?"

It is funny you asked that because I blogged today on my blog on pretty much the same question! I have submitted a request for permission to establish a Ning site for our Georgia COMO Conference, which is coming up in October. I'd love it if we could stream, blog, Tweet, and Wiki our way through this year's conference like we did NECC, especially since our theme for this year is focused around Web 2.0!

Hi Joyce - Great wiki you guys set up. Enjoyed listening to NECC from afar. And, I agree with Buffy about our library conferences. Our California Library conference is in November. Buffy, let's see what we can do between ourselves to get our state library conferences more 2.5ish! Thanks Joyce and Buffy for the inspiration.

Hey Alice,
Nice to hear from you! I think the SIGMS events are coming. The panel UStream is on the wiki necclibrarians08.wikispaces.com/

Buffy and Rob,
I could use your help! I am co-chairing the committee to help make AASL09 more 2.0. Ask if you can be on the committee or send your ideas. Maybe I'll do a blog post to solicit everyone's ideas.

I have visited several of the podcasts in the past few days. It is so hard to have to miss one good session to see another good session. Now we don't have to. I do hope others realize what a great PD opportunity they have here. Thanks for spreading the word to those folks who follow your blog.

Hi Rob! I'd love to brainstorm with you on the state conferences....I am waiting to hear the final approval about the Ning. I also have an email in the works about the option of UStream TV and Cover It Live! I will shoot you an email to brainstorm, OK?
