Experiencing NECC from home (and again and again)
July 3, 2008
NECC is one of those rare, transparent conferences you can enjoy nearly (well, maybe not exactly) as much from home.
So, if you missed the excitement of San Antonio, or if perhaps you missed a few important, crowded sessions, don't fret. You can catch up, bigtime!
Make sure you check out the growing number of
Videos on Demand, the rich assortment of
Podcast Sessions, and the truly amazing
Conference Online Community where attendants continue to still share like crazy! You can continue to share these when you return to school. Many are being housed on the
Apple Learning Interchange.
I am looking forward to hearing quite a few sessions I couldn't squeeze into my schedule:
Dean Shareski and David Jakes: One Hour PowerPoint,
Chris Lehmann: School 2.0,
Christopher Corallo: Developing 21st Century Skills
Also, don't miss the resources on the wiki for Saturday's
Edubloggercon event.
Now, ror the teacher librarian crowd:
On Wednesday morning I was honored to join an illustrious panel of teacher librarian bloggers:
Judy O’Connell,
Cathy Jo Nelson,
Anita Beaman,
Carolyn Foote,
Diane Cordell and
Kim Cofino (in spirit from Bangkok) for
Feed, Tag, Research: Remixing for School Library 2.5. If you haven't read their strong voices, start right now.
The wiki for the panel is filled with goodies--pictures, links galore, presentations, a
UStream. This wiki contains so many of the resources we didn't have time to describe in our seven minutes each, so please explore and exploit!
Thanks to Jennifer Garcia for timing a panel that needed more than twice the amount of time allotted to share its vision and enthusiasm. Thanks to
Derrall Garrison for
UStreaming the session and to
Carolyn for
live blogging and managing the backchannel chat. The room was full, but 40 more folks joined us through these back channels at the time of the session.
My biggest session regret is that time prevented us from getting to Kim’s video which addressed the international school library perspective.
Promise me you'll view Kim's video as well as the presentations of the other panelists.
Promise me you'll visit and revisit NECC.
Why can't our library conferences be more like NECC? (More to come on that!)
