Meme: Passion Quilt
February 21, 2008

Steve Dembo tagged me the other day with this meme challenge:
  • Post a picture from a source like FlickrCC or Flickr Creative Commons or make/take your own that captures what YOU are most passionate about for kids to learn about…and give your picture a short title.
  • Title your blog post “Meme: Passion Quilt” and link back to this blog entry.
  • Include links to 5 folks in your professional learning network or whom you follow on Twitter/Pownce.

Learning to Learn Together

Why did I select this rather ordinary photo from my own achive?

It might be taken any day of the week, any time of the day in our library.  It quietly captures our learning culture and the energy of our facility.  Students are surrounded by their own work, their own art. (The gallery is behind and to the left, and student work is displayed all over our shelves.)  Laptops and books and all sorts of other resources coexist.  Learning is social.  Discussion is essential.  Argument encouraged. Learners are engaged and playful.  Teachers and librarians conference, guide, and intervene.

Ever wonder what happens to a girl who breaks the rules of a meme?  Let's find out.  They said to share ONE photo.

But this is another of my favorites.  It shares some more everyday joy.

The scene:  While students are practicing for one of those presentations we are trying so hard to makeover in the back, I announce to a small group of researchers that we just began a subscription to JSTOR.  Abstracts for JSTOR resources kept coming up in Google Scholar searches and the girls had been lobbying me for a month or so.  When I announced that I was able to juggle funds a bit to swing a subscription, they broke into a spontaneous JSTOR dance.  We love databases at Springfield.

Database Dance

Forgive me, but the mom in me forces me to drag out the whole album.  Here's the little slide show we created for EduCon and our gallery of student life and work.

Five tags from my learning network:  Emily ValenzaCathy Nelson, Carolyn Foote, Francey Harris, and Judy O'Connell.

In addition, I tag any of the readers of this blog.  Beyond the few brave comment posters, and a few blogger linkers, I have no idea who is reading.  I'd love to discover many more friends.

More importantly, it occurred to me that a quilt of library images relating to learning might be useful to have and share.  Let's sew some squares together.

Inspired by your and Steve's posts this morning, I, too, added my piece to the Passion Quilt. We look forward to your presence at KSMA in October. www.missibket.blogspot.com
