Muchas gracias! I'll probably have to gaze lovingly at this page a few more times today....

Neat list! Will you have your own "Best Of" 2007 list?

Thanks for the list! I just had a friend email who said that Amazon & other stores are *out of stock* of The Arrival & wanted to know if I had any ideas of where to find it. And it's true. I just checked. Powells has *one* copy left (and I hope my friend already got it) and you can find a couple copies on Alibris that are less than $100. So here's my question: How can this happen 3 weeks before Christmas with a book that just came out this year? Is it bad planning on the publisher's part? Or the booksellers? I figured if anyone would know, it's you. :)

Did I? Well done me. I hadn't done it consciously. Just thought these might go over well.

As for your question, Josephine, I know for a fact that Scholastic believed in the awesome power of this book. They've been banking on it for months. The fact that it's out of stock just means that the print run must have sold through the roof. Seems odd, though. I mean, Scholastic knew this would happen. I'd double check with your booksellers in a day or two. By all rights there SHOULD be plenty of copies around and about.

Sensible. I'll put my knee-jerk how-could-they-do-this back in the drawer and check back in a couple days. On one hand, it's certainly gratifying to see a great book like this sell through the roof!

Wheeee! Thanks so much for this -- and for the great list of reads. I'm going to be looking up those early chapter books tomorrow.

I love your suggestions and I'm printing them out to keep close to my heart (or my suggestions file, whichever). But, Fusie, you hurt me so. I have done three lists of ways to give books with something extra. Look, maybe I can find a way to put The Arrival on there. I'll work on it.

"The Arrival" is out of stock?!? Nooooooo! What else am I going to find for my Manhattanite relatives with no space in their apartment for anything but books?!?

Ah! I am sorry, MotherReader! I even noted your lists to myself then managed to fail to link to them. I'll do a link to you in tomorrow's posting pronto. Apologies. It's the busy season.
