The Odd Tale of a Kidlit Karaoke Night: Nuns and NPR

Normally I don't do recaps of Kildit Drink Nights or, in the case of Saturday evening, Kidlit Karaoke Nights but this one stands out in particular.  There were ups and downs, and downs and ups.  Let us recap.

The Down:  Not a resident of Brooklyn I misdirected anyone who wished to attend by copying and pasting the directions from a website to the Old Carriage Inn.  The website was incorrect in terms of cross streets, thereby losing potential attendees, I am sure.

The Up: People managed to find it anyway.  And for a time we had just a nice normal Kidlit Drink Night on our hands.

The Down:  This is because the fellow who runs the karaoke, who is there EVERY SINGLE SATURDAY I HAVE EVER ATTENDED, was away on a camping trip.  Rendering the place a plain old bar.

The Up:  I hardly noticed due to the sheer coolness of my guests.  You had my own karaoke loving crew, your Michael Stearns (a brief visitor, but a welcome one) your Michael Santangelo, your Melanie Hope Greenberg, your Queens Librarians (Lori, Laura, and Gillian), and another super special ultra-cool guest.  Are you guys familiar with Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me? the NPR news quiz?  Are you familiar with the Limerick Challenges?  They are created the by the number one limericist (sp?) in America.  A man who freakin' attended my Kidlit Drink Night and I couldn't be prouder.  He merely introduced himself as Philip, but when his true job came out it was my husband that was able to say, "Philip?  Philip Goedicke?"  In any case, it was quite the coup.  We were all truly in awe.  Even the ones who didn't get to meet him but who heard about it later.  "Philip Goedicke was here?"

The Down: Well, we had to lose a couple people to get to ACTUAL karaoke that night.  If place #1 wasn't going to provide, place #2 would have to suffice.  I informed the bartender to let stragglers who wished to join us know.  My apologies to anyone who poked their head in, didn't see us, and fled.

Bachelorette parties are getting more elaborate these days.  Appropriately they did George Michael's Faith, crashed Son of a Preacher Man, and came in on Don't Stop Believing.

In the end, a really good time was had by all.  I will refrain from posting pictures of the attendees since I know some of you folks are a bit shyish and would kill me with your bare hands if I were to make your singing public.

Next Kidlit Karaoke Night (oh, we are definitely trying this again) I promise to check the place ahead of time to make sure it's actually happening.  That's a promise.
