Do You Know Bonnie Bracey Sutton? This Week's Everyday People Profile

This week is going to be, what I like to call - an intensive - here at Bowllan's blog. And Dan Blank, who is Director of Content Strategy & Development for Reed Business says it best when referring to the wonders of being a Facebook member.  He says, "There is an opportunity for you, or your brand, to be the conduit for more connections. Connections that are meaningful, and expand your industries in ways that were not possible before." 

Such is the case with my Facebook friendship with Bonnie Bracey Sutton, an extraordinary woman who I met through Facebook. And while I never met Bonnie - face-to-face - our friendship and resource sharing has grown exponentially over the last few months - THANKS to FACEBOOK! 

Hence, all this week, Bowllan's Blog is devoted to Bonnie!

Let me first say that Bonnie's background is not only impressive but it's steeped in educational technology resources for 21st century teachers, and parents. She's bold, worldly, AND, challenges the challenge.  I like that. People in the ed. tech. world follow her path, and they should. Here's why...

Bonnie works with technology integration projects involving the use of technology as media and ICT initiatives, nationally and internationally. She has worked in 22 countries to share technology information and ICT initiatives. In a highlight of her teaching career, she was the only classroom teacher appointed to the National Information Infrastructure Advisory Council by President Clinton to work with Vice President Al Gore and the Commerce Dept. She helped to author the two products of the council.

A former Fulbright Exchange Teacher in India and an elementary school teacher in Virginia, Ms. Bracey Sutton was a Christa McAuliffe Educator chosen by the National Education Association. In this position she created workshops and outreach for the use of technology, sharing educational technology integration ideas.

She is a NASA Challenge Center Fellow and an Earthwatch Fellow. Her Earthwatch projects were with Bill Walden in Majorca , Spain,  The Caribbean Mongoose in Saint Martin, and on that trip she volunteered to work with the turtle research group that was also on the Island. She has been a keynote speaker for the Earthwatch education division.
She has a special interest in science, math, engineering and technology use and in creating learning landscapes. Her work in inquiry and innovation is reflected in the use of hands-on projects and outreach with NASA youth projects and teacher initiatives. She was a workshop trainer for the Challenger Center for 8 years.

Recent initiatives, She is a member of the Superintendents Policy Committee for the Clark County School Board in las Vegas , Nevada.They are building Gates High Schools ) This is a project that has been on going for two years.

Bonnie consults and does workshops for the Thornburg Center for Professional Development  , and the Thornburg Center for Space Education. www.tcpd.org, and www.tcse.org

Bonnie is also an avid gardener, a fan of Bobby Flay * FoodnetworkP and loves books in spite of technology's reach.
