What's better than a note? An UberNote

February 15, 2008 Are you someone who likes to make notes about things? If so, UberNote may be something you would want to check out. This web-based application focuses on just one thing; helping you write and then find your notes. Unlike other quick note-jotting sites, UberNote has a few special tricks.

Writing a note with UberNote is very simple - just click on add note and start typing within the WYSIWYG editor. Along with the expected editing buttons for bold, italics, underlining, linking, and listing there is a new twist. UberNote has integrated to-do check boxes right into the notes section. Click on the big checkbox button to start a new to-do list that lets you check off finished items. A special navigation link is provided in the left menu to show all notes that have open tasks in them. Similarly, you can click on bookmarks to see any notes with links in them. UberNote also supports tagging, searching, and marking notes as important to make sure you can find what you wrote.

Certainly a great, free application for anyone who lives by sticky notes, but also consider further possibilities for this. Students could use UberNote to keep track of their research. Have them create a new note for each source and then they have a nice, organized place to keep notes. Students could also link to their sources to keep track of where information is coming from for citations. Another note could be used to track the tasks remaining in their project. Notes can be printed or e-mailed for submission if needed (this is kind of odd, but you have to click into a note as if to edit it to see the print/e-mail icons).

So quick, make a note to go check out UberNote!
