Even if the weather was cold in Denver for the American Library Association Midwinter Meeting, the book award news was hot. Neil Gaiman won the Newbery for The Graveyard Book (Harper Collins) and Laurie Halse Anderson picked up the Margaret A. Edwards Award for lifetime achievement in writing for young adults for her titles Catalyst (Viking), Fever 1793 (S&S), and Speak (Penguin), a 2000 Printz Honor Book.
