With a list this long it is sad that so few are for readers in grades 4 and 5.

I find myself dismayed by the lack of children's books on this list. Nearly all of these books, though wonderful selections, are for teens.

I agree! I actually thought that books for middle readers (4-6th grade) had improved this year, with The Dragon's Tooth, The Trouble with Chickens, and even the final book of the Patron trilogy, Lucky for Good. Hopefully the trend will continue to grow, and inclusion on lists like this one could be an encouragement to publishers...
