Libri Foundation: Books for Children
Grant winners make their selections from a list of more than 700 fiction and nonfiction titles that reflect the best of children's literature published within the last three years, as well as a selection of classic favorites such as The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere and The 20th Century Children's Poetry Treasury. Grants are awarded three times a year: January 31, April 30, and August 30. The deadline for applying for the August awards is August 15. The Libri Foundation was established in 1989 for the sole purpose of helping rural libraries acquire new, quality, hardcover children's books they could not otherwise afford to buy. Since October 1990, the Foundation has donated over $4,000,000 worth of new children's books to more than 2,800 libraries in 49 states, including Alaska and Hawaii.
Thanks to grants from the Libri Foundation Books for Children small, rural public libraries across the country can receive brand-new, quality hardcovers for kids. To be eligible, libraries should be in a rural area and have a limited operating budget and an active children's department.
