Etta_pic_web(Original Import)No, the star in question is not my son, Henry, who made his debut two days after the last Series Made Simple was published (he’s the child of an editor, for sure). I’m referring to the first Series Made Simple starred review. I would tell you about it myself, but my colleagues are tired of listening to me rave about this book; instead you can find the review, along with Mary Mueller’s other reviews of American history books from this season, on page 84. The star reflects our reviewer John Peters’s happy assertion that series nonfiction publishers now produce higher quality and more attractive books than ever.

And that’s not the only change. More and more, publishers are offering their K-12 material online as well as in print. Many popular technologies are a morass of formats and pricing models in their first years, and ebooks are no different. School librarian Douglas Uhlmann sorts it all out for you on page 80, describing various series nonfiction ebook platforms—what they offer, how they work, and what they cost.

These reviews and past issues of Series Made Simple are available at slj.com/seriesmadesimple. And to get advance School Library Journal review tidbits, follow us on Twitter at @sljournal.
