Nominations Open for 2021 School Librarian of the Year

Submissions for School Librarian of the Year are now being accepted. Let us know what you, or an outstanding colleague, are doing.

Nominations are now open for the 2021 School Librarian of the Year.
Administered by School Library Journal (SLJ) and sponsored by Scholastic Book Fairs, the award honors a K–12 library professional for outstanding achievement and the exemplary use of 21st-century tools and services to engage children and teens toward fostering multiple literacies.

It has been a difficult year, to say the least. As always, librarians have stepped up in myriad ways to serve students and assist colleagues. We can't wait to hear about the innovative solutions to unprecedented problems and learn what great things librarians were doing before the pandemic struck, too.

To be considered, applicants must meet state requirements for school library media certification and be currently employed in a media specialist, teacher librarian, or equivalent position. They can work in either a public or private school at a site level—supervisors or managers of library programs (including at a district or regional level) are not eligible.
Previous applicants who have not yet received the award are encouraged to apply again. Nominate yourself or a deserving colleague, but please read instructions closely. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.

• A Scholastic Book Fairs “Mr. Schu’s Picks” collection of books.
• A visit from John Schumacher, Ambassador of School Libraries, Scholastic, including a book giveaway for every student in the school.
• A feature profile in the April 2021 issue of SLJ.
Nominations close December 8. The winner will be announced in March 2021.
