Gr 1–3—Though the amusement park mainstays highlighted in this series don't all offer quite the same level of "thrill," the bright color photos and Bodden's matter-of-fact descriptions of what riders can expect may leave novices eager, or at least a little better prepared, for their first rides. The author slips in a bit of history about each ride to go with the images of colorfully painted exteriors and glimpses of the mechanics that make the fun possible. Along with brief mentions of the highest, longest, or biggest rides worldwide, the author closes each volume with a more detailed look at one renowned exemplar, such as the London Eye Ferris wheel or Coney Island's Cyclone roller coaster.
