Gr 1-3–Step into the studio to mold mischief and mayhem as two rambunctious balls of clay from Petty and Eldridge’s
Claymates return in a worthwhile follow-up. When the artist steps away again, the claymates waste no time shaping two new playmates: the stunning unicorn-dragon and the valiant yet lumpy Sir Potato. As two balls of clay attempt to wrangle their creations, hilarity ensues. Like its predecessor, there is plenty of belly laugh–inducing humor, but Petty provides readers with an important reminder: creativity thrives in imperfection. Eldridge returns with stunning photos of expressive clay figures presented in comic-style paneling, which invites readers to explore beyond the page and experiment in the classroom or library makerspace.
VERDICT This is a strong sequel and suitable addition to libraries and classrooms alike.
