Ribbons appear with the turn of each page and will captivate along with the sweet, rhyming text about a parent bear and a young bear. The bears are not identified as male or female; no stereotypical props or clothing give any gender cues about the two bears, which allows children to decide for themselves. The parent bear is loving and giving, telling the child bear in one sweet line, “Your laughter is my favorite sound. Your smile is my treat.” Illustrations in calming hues feature the two bears tending plants, going into outer space (in their playtime fantasy), riding in a hot air balloon and enjoying a huge ice cream sundae.
VERDICT This is a perfect book for bedtime; likely to be a favorite and widely circulated.
