Phenomenal Moments: Revealing the Hidden Science Around Us

Gr 8 Up–In this book of unusual photographs with insightful commentary of what readers are seeing, a science photographer describes her creative process as well as her fascination with the science behind the images. Each chapter includes common elements: a photograph, an interactive question of “What Do You See?” to the reader, a description of the moment that inspired the photo, and an explanation of the science. Young people interested in photography beyond point-and-shoot images will pore over the shots and may begin to view the world around them differently. Some may even be inspired to get creative with their own cameras, whether it be a multi-lens DSLR or whatever is available on their mobile phone. Art and science teachers will also gain assignment ideas that will spark the creativity of students in their classes.
