Gr 3–5—Each title in this series is made up of about 10 chapters with dramatic headings, such as "The Egyptians Loved Partying" or "Some Vikings Went Berserk." Overall, these are introductory works. (Each chapter runs about four to five sentences long.) Occasionally, the vocabulary is too advanced for the intended audience, with words like
monasteries and
anesthetized used without definition. The illustrations are made up of maps, computer-generated drawings, and small inset photos. Some, such as the drawing of an Aztec priest holding up a sacrificial human heart, are intense for primary readers.
