The interactive elements add another dimension to the text, creating active learning opportunities as well as plain old fun. Baumann (Birth and Growing Up) knows how to spark curiosity, and her illustrations depict the human body clearly and accurately without exaggeration. The human figures shown throughout are diverse in race and ability. Text features, such as captions, sidebars, and short blocks of expository text, are thoughtfully arranged around the illustrations, providing just the right amount of information without overwhelming young readers.
VERDICT A fun and engaging addition to nonfiction collections, especially appealing to children who enjoy reading science-focused works like the DK’s “Eyewitness Books” or learning through hands-on exploration.
