Eager for a full year of rich programming but unsure where to start? Look no further than this collection of more than 50 ideas for activities to do with tweens (10–13), teens (14–19), millennials (20–39), older adults (40-plus), and families. Though the programs are arranged by month (create a haunted gingerbread house in October, BBQ for beginners in June), many, such as basic car repair or sing-along movie nights, can be offered at other times of the year as well. The authors provide useful information, such as prep time, how long the activity will last, the number of patrons, supply lists, and tips such as ways to vary the age ranges of activities (preparing easy appetizers and desserts can easily be tweaked for teens and tweens, for instance). In Part 2, the authors suggest ideas for 25 regularly occurring clubs, on everything from parenting teens to running a 5K race—a potentially great way to build a cohort of like-minded people who value the library. Without photos of any of the activities or crafts, visual learners may have more difficulty using this title.
VERDICT A reliable source of ideas, especially for beginning programmers or those looking for a creative nudge.
