PreS-K–This cheerfully illustrated board book is a good source of vocabulary and ideas about the United States. Each spread covers a number of letters, so it will not be useful for teaching the alphabet in order. Most of the images are labeled but they seem randomly assembled and the images connect things that wouldn’t normally be related, like the Washington Monument and longhorn cattle, or the Daytona 500 and the Capitol. There are flaps to lift that will help engage some children. Without a logical order or narrative to pull the pieces together, it’s really just a list of American things.
VERDICT For libraries that need board books to develop vocabulary, there are better books.
