Readers will meet Harl, who wants to help everyone; Mayor Fleck, who has lost his corn costume; Rooky, the skateboarding detective; Westbrook, the TV host; and Horace, the firefighter. The stories are brief yet exciting, and often deliver a lesson or two to young readers. While most of the plot lines are simple and straightforward, some meander (particularly “The Fire Spirit”) and may be confusing for newly independent readers. Illustrations featuring the LEGO characters are bright and engaging, and will provide support as young readers work to decode some of the challenging words.
VERDICT This compilation is sure to be a fan favorite for emerging readers, not to be missed in libraries where mild adventures or stories about LEGO are popular.
