K-Gr 2—In their second adventure, young Dexter and the Big Blue Beastie can't sleep and are restlessly "hooting" with horns from the rooftops. Thrown out of town by the neighbors, they encounter charming Sir Percy Pecket, who needs their services to wake up his beloved princess. Philippina is annoyed that Sir Percy has not yet slain the Frightful Dragon and sets off with Dexter and Big Blue to find the creature. They discover that the dragon isn't really frightful, they teach him to tap dance, and together they wander the land as a gang of players, showing off their talents. Upon their return to the dragon's door, they can't seem to stop performing, but Sir Percy arrives and sings them to sleep. This strange and whimsical story of a quest may be hard for some children to follow, yet it will produce lots of giggles. The playful illustrations depict a jolly green dragon and pastel backgrounds scattered with soft white stars and half moons, contributing to the dreamlike quality of the tale.—Sara Figueroa, Indian Valley Public Library, Telford, PA
In their second adventure, the title characters get kicked out of town for excessive hooting. A prince enlists them to wake his sleeping princess, Philippina, then the trio--with the help of a talented tap-dancing dragon--entertains the medieval kingdom. Humorous vignettes including copious illustrations and dialogue bubbles illustrate this sometimes confusing British import.
