PreS-K–Dog is relaxing on his rug after enjoying playing with his ball and paddle on a sunny afternoon. He is startled when he thinks he sees something right outside the sliding glass door. He sits up and he sees something again, suddenly, but it’s so fast, he cannot figure out what he saw. Dog waits and waits, and nothing. After he falls asleep as planned on his rug, Dog is awakened by a rat sitting on his nose. Illustrations support the dialogue with telling this story, which is simply about two types of animals becoming friends. Meisel is a fun and creative storyteller, as well as a talented and colorful artist—the perfect person to write a book for emerging readers.
VERDICT A great addition to library collections. Children will enjoy hearing this read aloud to them over and over again until they are able to read it for themselves.
