It’s Taco Knight!

K-Gr 3–This funny picture book uses a ­well-known medieval backdrop. Sandwich Knight, Soup Knight, and Pizza Knight are joined by a newcomer, Taco. On his first day, people are excited to eat tacos, so much so that the Taco Knight serves tacos every day until he gets booed. Young readers and parents will enjoy food-related puns and the bright, colorful illustrations. The fancy lettering and “once upon a time” beginning help set the stage for a book full of over-the-top facial expressions and cartoonish knights with food. The illustrations help the pace of the story until the Taco Knight gets negative attention. The moral of the story falls a bit flat, but the vibrant illustrations will keep readers involved to the end, where a new knight foreshadows a future where the same mistakes will be made again.
