Gr 9 Up—Seventeen-year-old Coretta White, who is African American, is a great student trying to juggle school, a boyfriend, and a slew of extracurricular activities. She starts a blog to vent about life and her parents' antiquated views, but when her blog goes viral overnight she has trouble with the balancing act. To help with the stress, she hires a white ghostwriter named Karl Ristoff. Soon after, she gets a TV deal, but she can't help but wonder: How did her blog go viral almost instantly? Johnathan McClain and Cherise Boothe are appealing narrators who bring Coretta and Karl's worlds to life. Written in alternating voices, the characters are easily distinguishable and believable. Although there are some plot inconsistencies, the pace is swift and the characters' choices and motivations are realistic.
VERDICT Teens interested in blogging, realistic fiction, and books similar to Mary Amato's Guitar Notes will enjoy. ["This book screams pop culture but may also spark deeper discussions about cultural appropriation and honesty": SLJ 12/15 review of the Soho Teen book.]
